Trailridge School was the first building of a new 6th – 9th grade campus for the Waukee CSD. Originally opening to serve grades 8-9 and later transitioning to a dedicated 9th grade facility, Trailridge School meets the growth demands of the District while providing students and teachers an engaging learning and teaching environment.

The building features community-based general classrooms organized around shared learning spaces that foster collaboration and connection. A central corridor serves as the main circulation spine, providing direct access to specialized program areas, the media center, commons, and gymnasiums.

A major design focus was the expansion of gym space to better support youth programs and accommodate multiple groups simultaneously. Extensive use of natural daylight and exterior views contributes to a bright, open, and engaging educational environment. Collaborative zones and flexible furnishings allow staff to better meet student needs through differentiated instruction and research-based teaching methods.
