Ellsworth Community College carries a strong tradition of sports excellence and community involvement. The College teamed with frk architects + engineers to design a new family activity center to aid the further development of their athletic programs and provide a new recreational facility for community outreach. This facility, connected with the existing competition gymnasium and pool, provides the College with a new, popular gathering spot on campus.

The Dale Howard Family Activity Center is centered around a lounge and café, paired with faculty offices and conference spaces. It provides additional classroom and computer lab spaces, which are shared between academic and athletic programs. The new rec gymnasium has two courts with a second floor running track elevated above, accessed from the new weight and aerobic exercise spaces. The locker rooms and support functions are designed to serve both the new athletic functions and the existing pool facilities.
