Waukee High School Addition

In order to accommodate increasing student enrollment in the district, additional classroom, administration and program space was needed at the high school. frk provided programming and master planning to determine the number and most effective layout for the new spaces. The existing high school was added on to at four different locations providing 14 general classrooms, 3 science lab suites, a new wood lab, 2 large music rehearsal rooms and associated practice and storage rooms, new art and family consumer sciences rooms, and 6 special needs rooms. In addition, the theater arts back stage was expanded, 7 teacher resource rooms were added, and 8 rooms were added to the guidance suite. Since the additions were in four separate locations, and the existing building was relatively new, every effort was taken to make the exterior of the new construction match the original building.
