Waukee Elementary School

Waukee, IA

The Waukee School District is one of the fastest growing in the state.  As a result, Waukee Elementary was built to accommodate this growth.

Working closely with administration and teaching staff, careful attention was given to how the building would be organized.  Three classroom pods surround a central circulation core, minimizing the distance students need to travel to access shared program spaces such as the media center, computer labs, guidance, and music classrooms.  The exterior façade is comprised of masonry and architectural precast, providing both durability and aesthetic value.  To add interest, vibrant colors were employed throughout the rooms and corridors and a continuous translucent panel clerestory window provides diffuse natural light all along the central core corridors.
