Red Oak Public Library

Red Oak, Iowa

This Carnegie library has received several additions and renovations since its original construction in 1909. The City of Red Oak came to frk in order to add a north addition. The intent was to restore the symmetry of the original structure after a 1959 addition, as well as provide additional square footage for a reading room and children’s areas. The renovation project also completely replaced the existing mechanical and electrical systems, installed a new elevator for ADA compliance to all three floors, restored the interior décor in the original craftsman style, and replaced all shelving with new custom units. The end result provides the City and its patrons with a facility that both respects its rich history while providing an updated facility that is in a position to serve for many years to come.
