Kum & Go Retail Stores

Varied locations in Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri and Colorado, IA

In the mid 1990s, Krause Gentle Corporation asked frk to design a 'prototype store' for their Kum & Go convenience store chain. However, after the prototype was complete, Krause Gentle realized that they would prefer to have each of their stores be unique, offering different services, partnering with other businesses, and reaching out to the local community through diverse, customer-oriented designs. frk worked with Krause Gentle to design over 40 Kum & Go locations across Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, and Colorado. While these stores all share a similar concept, each has been designed to fit their particular site and to adapt to local surroundings. For example, many of the Kum & Go stores in Colorado make use of heavy timber structures, instead of brick or concrete, in order to better respect the architecture of the region.
