Over the past several years, FRK has worked with Newbury Development to design affordable housing complexes for working families in a variety of communities across Iowa. While the facilities have been built in close to a dozen diverse locations, they are often times similar in concept, offering a series of two and three bedroom units.

One example of a Newbury project is Bloomsbury Apartments in Des Moines. The facility was built on the site of an old medical clinic, incorporating the existing building but completely renovating the interior and exterior to create room for 16 units. With the addition of a new 12-unit building, a family community was created. Each unit in the three-story structures features a walk-out deck or patio, and there is an expansive play area for the children.

Another model project is Meadow Wood Apartments in Carroll. Located close to many services in this growing city, the complex was designed with many amenities in the one, two, and three bedroom family units. Each unit includes 1.5 baths and a patio or deck. Some also include walk-in closets and locations for a private washer and dryer within each apartment.
