In 1989 Frevert-Ramsey-Kobes began working with Wesley Retirement Services to develop a new senior housing campus in Indianola, Iowa. The expansive campus, built on a rolling site in the middle of an existing residential area, was to include a variety of housing options, from skilled nursing units to independent townhomes.

The completed project is centered on Maplecrest, a 60,000 SF facility that includes both skilled nursing and assisted living units. The building revolves around a central hub with a pentagon-shaped lounge. Four wings branch off, and a fifth is planned for the future.

Across the street from Maplecrest is Aspen, a 75,000 SF apartment building with 59 total units. Parking is available in garages underneath the building, and a skywalk connects the third floor of Aspen to Maplecrest, so residents can take easy advantage of a medical clinic, a beauty shop, a central dining room, and other services offered in the main facility.

Spread out over the remainder of the site are 63 townhomes, built as 2-plexes, 3-plexes, and 4-plexes. They offer the enjoyment of independent living while being close enough to use the comforts and services of Maplecrest.

The site also features a large, man-made pond. FRK completed a site design that calls for the construction of additional townhomes, a community center, and at least one additional apartment building in the future.
