This major addition to Ames High School includes an entirely new library, computer lab, meeting rooms, art room, and eight science rooms. The new media center was designed to house 75,000 volumes (37,000 books). At a total area of 13,000 square feet, this school library is larger than most town libraries. Both types of library have the same problems of security and supervision, seating capacity, work area, and especially incorporating technology. The library is conveniently located to all departments and has excellent views of the adjacent woods and prairies.

The project also involved an expansion to the existing cafeteria, a new fire alarm system for the entire building, new fire doors throughout, data wiring provided to all existing classrooms for computer and telephone access, and converting existing restrooms to be handicapped accessible.
