A large sweeping wall plane extending beyond the exterior of the building directs the visitor to the main entrance of the new Atlantic High school. The wall plane defines the back of the auditorium and terminates at the commons area. The facility is arranged around this central open commons which provides direct access to the media center, auditorium, gymnasium, and administration areas. The auditorium is designed with two classrooms at the rear which can be fully opened to provide additional seating for performances.

Classrooms are grouped around the centrally located media center, which contains clerestory windows that filter soft north light into the space. With the large computer room directly adjacent, the media center can accomodate multiple class activities at the same time. In addition, the latest in technology is provided to each classroom throughout the building via a fully wired media and computer network. A technology classroom that allows students to experiment with advanced applications in robotics, aeronautics, and communications highlights the industrial technology wing.

The music department as well as the gymnasium and locker rooms are situated to provide acoustical privacy for the classrooms while affording convenient access to the auditorium and to outdoor playing fields for band and athletic activities. The gymnasium contains a mezzanine level wrestling area, which can be converted into additional seating with built-in retractable bleachers.
