The School District’s master plan called for combining Mann Elementary and Watrous Elementary into one facility on the Watrous site. Providing a new identity for the merged school became a major priority for the site based committee.

Working closely with the committee and staff, a concept was developed to re-orient the main front entry and administrative functions to the south side of the current site. This allowed for a student drop off lane and parking area adjacent to the new front entrance, greatly improving traffic flow and student safety as well as providing the identity the site committee was striving for.

The new addition wraps around the existing building, forming a landscaped outdoor classroom space for the staff to utilize as an additional teaching tool. The library becomes the focal point of the school and contains an intimate storytelling area overlooking this outdoor space.

An extensive renovation of the existing building provided energy efficient windows, new roofing, electrical, and communications systems as well as a fully air conditioned facility utilizing an innovative geothermal ground source heat pump system.

A folding wall is employed between the gymnasium and music areas to accommodate performances. In addition, the cafeteria, gymnasium and library all are accessible after hours, allowing the school to function as a true community facility.
