FRK Architects-Engineers P.C.

In 1999 FRK relocated to a new office in the Waterford Building in the Three Fountains Business Park, West Des Moines. The goal was to design a modern space that provided maximum flexibility and support for our 20 staff members, while at the same time creating a personal expression of what our architecture is all about. The project was approached like any other--FRK worked carefully with the 'clients', the employees of the office, and staff members were individually interviewed to assess their needs and desires for the new work space.

Differentiating spaces within the new office is accomplished by a transition of ceiling materials (partially exposed structure, drywall planes, light fixtures) and the interplay of overlapping volumes. To play a little game with perspective the main wall volume is skewed to lengthen or shorten the view depending on your relative position. Utilizing indirect and task lighting, an environment is provided that is suitable for both CAD and hand work.
