Indian Hills Community College's Ottumwa campus is located on a beautiful 125-acre wooded site. The original college building was constructed in 1960 by the Sisters of Humility of Mary who sold the complex in 1982.

Foremost in the board and administrative plan was the construction of a facility for recreational and instructional use by students, staff, and the public. Requirements in the initial concept were the the building be functional and energy efficient.

Conforming to the terrain, 65% of the center is underground with three sides bermed for energy conservation. The southerly exposure also provides for the use of passive solar energy.

The center features a gymnasium area, racquetball/handball courts, weight/exercise room, spa, dance/exercise room, conference room, 440 ft track, formal and informal lounges, offices and locker rooms. Community education classes and public meetings are conducted in the building as are programs for staff members.
